Suspected Felon on the Loose After Causing Injuries at National Park

A suspected felon allegedly involved with a burglary case is still at large after he led law enforcement on a high-speed pursuit through Rocky Mountain National Park in Estes Park, Colorado, on Sunday and caused a crash that injured three people in the process.
Park rangers temporarily closed part of the popular park on Sunday for an “ongoing law enforcement incident,” according to a post made on X, formerly Twitter, by the park. Temporary closures were put in place from U.S. Highway 36/Spur 66 to the park’s Beaver Meadows Entrance after a suspect fled through the area at a high rate of speed.
Park officials attempted to apprehend the suspect after he sped through the Grand Lake entrance on the west side of the park. However, law enforcement officials called off the pursuit because of the suspect’s recklessness and high speed. During the man’s efforts to flee, his vehicle collided with another vehicle in the area.
“Law enforcement personnel attempted to slow the vehicle at Deer Ridge Junction and placed strip sticks near Beaver Meadows Entrance,” the most recent press release from the park said. “The suspect continued to travel at a high rate of speed south past the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center and hit another vehicle with three individuals inside. All three individuals were transported by ambulance to Estes Park Health, one with critical injuries.”
The suspect remains at large, the park said in the press release.
An NPS spokesperson told Newsweek that there are no new updates for the case, and no park closures are in place.
The suspect is described as a bald, white male, 5 foot 9 inches and 165 pounds. He is reported to be wearing blue jeans and no shirt or shoes.
“He was last seen fleeing from his vehicle in Rocky Mountain National Park south of the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center on US Highway 36 toward High Drive,” Rocky Mountain National Park staff posted on X on Sunday. “If you see this person, do not approach and immediately call 911.”
After the crash, the suspect fled on foot toward homes in the Estes Park area. Residents were instructed to shelter in place. He appeared to have a head injury from the crash.
The suspect is allegedly involved in a felony burglary case that occurred in Grand County.
Rocky Mountain National Park Law Enforcement Rangers were assisted by Estes Park Police Department and Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, the press release said.
Rocky Mountain National Park is a 265,807-acre park in north-central Colorado with more than 300 miles of hiking trails.
